Cat6 is the most widely installed structured cabling standard in UK commercial buildings, providing 1000BASE-T (Gigabit Ethernet) performance at frequencies up to 250MHz. The 24-port patch panel terminates 24 cable runs from wall outlets, camera positions, or equipment connections, with patch cords connecting the panel to the active switch.
For the majority of CCTV, access control, alarm system, and standard office network installations, Gigabit Ethernet (1Gbps) is the required performance level. All current IP cameras, access control systems, alarm communicators, and office equipment operate on Gigabit Ethernet at line rates well below the 1Gbps ceiling.
Cat6 is cost-effective for these applications and the most common patch panel specification for small to medium commercial installations in the UK.
The distinction from the Cat6A Pro panel (Cabinet UTP Port-24-Pro) is the performance specification and cost: Cat6 supports 1Gbps over 100m and 10Gbps only up to approximately 55m; Cat6A supports 10Gbps over the full 100m. For CCTV, security, and general 1Gbps installations, Cat6 is the appropriate and more cost-effective specification.
Key Features
- 24-port Cat6 patch panel: 1Gbps Gigabit Ethernet termination
- Standard specification for CCTV, security, and general office cabling
- Cat6 250MHz: appropriate for all current IP cameras and network devices
- 19-inch rack mount 1U for standard data cabinets
- More cost-effective than Cat6A for 1Gbps-only installations
- Use Cat6A panel where 10Gbps over full 100m is required
