Cat6A (Augmented Category 6) is the current highest-performance unshielded copper cabling standard for 10 Gigabit Ethernet. The patch panel is the termination and management point for the structured cabling runs: all cable runs from wall outlets and equipment positions are terminated to the patch panel, and patch cords connect the panel to the active network equipment (switches).
The Pro designation distinguishes this panel from the standard Cat6 24-port panel in this range: the Cat6A construction uses thicker cable with better alien crosstalk performance, and the panel terminations are designed to maintain the Cat6A performance specifications that the cable provides.
For new structured cabling installations where 10Gbps Ethernet is already in use or planned for the near future, specifying Cat6A components ensures the cabling infrastructure supports this data rate without requiring recabling.
The distinction from the standard Cat6 patch panel (Cabinet UTP Port-24) is the specification and future-proofing: Cat6A (this panel) supports 10Gbps over full 100m runs; Cat6 supports 10Gbps only over shorter distances (typically up to 55m under ideal conditions). For guaranteed 10Gbps over 100m, Cat6A is the required specification.
