This adaptor is the complement to the BNC female to RCA male adaptor: where that connector takes a BNC cable and presents it as an RCA male plug for plugging into an RCA socket, this BNC male to RCA female adaptor takes an RCA phono cable and presents it as a BNC male plug for inserting into a BNC socket.
The application is the other way around: connecting an RCA-terminated video cable from a TV, VCR, or AV device into the BNC video input of a recorder, monitor, or camera device. This is common when connecting a source with an RCA composite output, such as a video processor, multiplexer output, or older TV output, into a CCTV recorder that accepts only BNC.
Both the BNC-PHONO-MALE and BNC-PHONO-FEMALE adaptors serve signal adaption functions between BNC and RCA connector types. The correct choice between them depends entirely on the connector type at each end of the connection: a BNC cable to an RCA socket requires the BNC female to RCA male adaptor, while an RCA cable to a BNC socket requires this BNC male to RCA female adaptor.
Neither adaptor changes the signal type — both are passive connector converters only.
