The Alarmsense optical smoke detector is the standard detector specification for habitable and circulation spaces in Alarmsense 2-wire fire alarm systems: bedrooms, living rooms, corridors, offices, and stairwells where optical smoke detection is the appropriate technology for the fire scenario likely to occur in that space.
Optical smoke detection is recommended by BS 5839 Part 1 and Part 6 for these areas because it responds effectively to the slow-burning, smouldering fires involving soft furnishings, electrical insulation, and similar materials, producing large smoke particles that scatter the light beam within the detection chamber at an early stage of fire development.
As with the heat detector head (55000-190APO), the 55000-390APO is the detector head only, intended to be fitted on a separate Alarmsense base. At positions requiring both smoke detection and sounder output, the detector is fitted on an Alarmsense sounder base (45681-510APO). At detection-only positions, a standard Alarmsense base is used.
The distinction from the Apollo Series 65 optical smoke detector (55000-317APO, batch 7) is the system compatibility: the Alarmsense detector is for 2-wire Alarmsense systems, while the Series 65 detector is for conventional fire alarm systems. They are not interchangeable between system types.
For fire alarm engineers completing Alarmsense 2-wire system detector installations in living areas, corridors, and offices across London and the UK, the 55000-390APO provides the Alarmsense optical smoke detector head for these positions.
Key Features
- Alarmsense optical smoke detector head for 2-wire fire alarm systems
- Optical detection: effective for smouldering fires in living and office spaces
- Detector head only: fits on separate Alarmsense base
- Preferred for bedrooms, corridors, and escape routes per BS 5839
- Not compatible with conventional systems: Alarmsense 2-wire only
- Distinct from Series 65 optical (batch 7): different system compatibility
