Wireless alarm systems communicate between the Hub and detectors over radio frequencies, and in buildings with heavy masonry, reinforced concrete floors, substantial metal structures, or multiple floors, the radio signal may not reliably reach all detector positions from the Hub alone. The Ajax REX is the solution for these installations: it receives the Hub signal and re-transmits it, extending the effective range of the Ajax Jeweller protocol throughout the building.
On larger commercial properties and multi-floor buildings, a single REX may be sufficient to bridge an intermediate floor or extend coverage to a wing of the building that would otherwise be beyond reliable radio contact. On very large or complex sites, multiple REX units can be deployed.
The REX communicates with the Hub using the same encrypted Jeweller radio protocol as all other Ajax devices, maintaining the tamper detection, anti-jamming, and encryption standards of the broader system. Devices registered to the REX appear in the Ajax app identically to devices registered directly to the Hub.
Power is supplied by the building’s mains supply with battery backup for periods when mains is interrupted, maintaining the repeater function even during a power cut.
For Ajax installers completing system designs on properties in London and the UK where direct Hub-to-detector radio range is insufficient, the REX is the standard infrastructure device for extending Ajax wireless coverage reliably.
