A Type 2 to Type 2 EV charging cable is required for socket-type wallbox chargers (as distinct from tethered chargers where the cable is permanently attached to the unit). When a charger has a socket output rather than a fixed cable, the driver provides their own cable at each charge session.
The 7-metre length provides comfortable reach from a wall-mounted charger socket to the vehicle charge port without requiring the vehicle to be positioned tightly against the wall, accommodating parking positions where the vehicle is a few metres from the charger or where the charger is positioned at the side of the driveway.
At 7kW, this cable supports single-phase AC charging at the maximum rate available from a single-phase 32A wallbox, which is the most common home and small commercial charger specification in the UK. Charging rate will always be limited to the minimum of the vehicle’s onboard charger, the cable’s current rating, and the wallbox’s output.
The EVGAFF designation indicates the cable specification and safety rating for EV charging duty (IEC 62196).
The 7-metre version provides a longer reach than the 5-metre variant (SKU ev-charger cable-5m). For most driveway and car park installations the 7-metre cable accommodates a wider range of vehicle positioning. The 5-metre cable is lighter and more compact for drivers who prefer a shorter cable for regular commute charging.
