The optical detection principle uses an infrared LED and light sensor in a scatter geometry: in clear air, little or no light from the LED reaches the sensor, but smoke particles scatter the LED light onto the sensor and trigger the alarm threshold. The 55000-600APO is the detector head only. It requires an XP95 mounting base (such as the Apollo 45681-210APO intelligent base) to be fitted in the installation: the base is wired to the system loop, and the detector head plugs and locks into the base. This separation simplifies detector replacement and cleaning maintenance without rewiring.

XP95 is distinct from Apollo’s Alarmsense two-wire series (for smaller conventional panels) and is for use with compatible addressable panels such as Apollo’s own panel range and third-party addressable fire panels that support the XP95 protocol.
